High Commissioner Charles Muscat speaks during the Royal Commonwealth Society’s Commonwealth Day dinner in Canberra

High Commissioner Charles Muscat and Mrs. Victoria Muscat attended the annual Commonwealth Day dinner of the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) on 17 March 2016 at the Commonwealth Club in Canberra.

In light of Malta’s recent hosting of CHOGM 2015, the High Commissioner was invited to be the Guest Speaker during this year’s Dinner.

Addressing the members of the RCS in Canberra and Sydney, led by President, Mr. Kanti Jinna with spouse, Mrs. Jyoti Jinna, RCS life members, and guests, the High Commissioner reaffirmed Malta’s strong support for the Commonwealth and spoke of Malta’s focus on making the Commonwealth relevant to its citizens and to the world in the next 2 years as Chair -in-Office of CHOGM. The High Commissioner also spoke on this year’s theme,  An Inclusive Commonwealth, which is paramount to “Adding Global Value”.

The High Commissioner did not miss the opportunity to speak about Malta, the Jewel of the Mediterranean, and invited everyone to visit and spend their next holidays in Malta.

RCS former President Hugh Craft gave a gracious acknowledgement or Vote of Thanks of the High Commissioner’s speech and candidly recognized the High Commissioner’s surprisingly adept stewardship of a diplomatic mission in spite of his private sector background.

The RCS President in his letter of thanks received the following day expressed his appreciation for the excellent speech and made particular mention of the High Commissioner’s impromptu preamble on Malta which revealed himself as a “true patriot of the noble country”.
